The purpose of the JATC College and Career Ready Student Portfolio is to help students prepare and be in a position to make that next-step transition after high school. The JATC College and Career Ready Student Portfolio is designed to give students the opportunity to experience leadership, demonstrate competency in their program of study, develop career ready skills and prepare for college. In order to successfully complete the JATC College and Career Ready Student Portfolio, students must complete both Core and Supplemental requirements in four areas: Leadership, Program Competency, Career Readiness and College Readiness. Students can download a Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet 2015-2016 to keep track of the portfolio requirements. Requirements and documents necessary for each component of the JATC College and Career Ready Student Portfolio are detailed below. Portfolios must be submitted by no later than May 13, 2016 to be considered for the JATC College & Career Readiness medallion award. Youth Leadership Organization Membership – Student must join and be an active member of their program’s CTSO. Teacher will certify membership with a signature on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet and student will include this signed CTSO Membership Certificate in their student portfolio. Service Learning Project Participation – Student must participate in a minimum of one service learning project (4 hrs) during the current school year. Teacher will verify service learning project completion with a signature on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet and student will include this completed Service Learning Documentation form in their student portfolio. Supplemental – Complete two of the following*: CTSO Officer – Student will obtain a signature on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet from their advisor and include this completed CTSO Leadership Documentation Form in their student portfolio. JATC Student Ambassador – Student will obtain a signature on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet from their advisor and include this completed JATC Ambassador Documentation Form in their student portfolio. Leadership Conference Attendance – Student must attend at least on leadership conference during the academic year. Verification will be indicated with their teacher’s signature and a copy of their leadership conference participation certificate in their student portfolio. CTSO Competition Participation – Student must compete in at least one event in a CTSO competition during the academic year. Verification will be indicated with their teacher’s signature and a copy of their performance certificate in their student portfolio. Service Learning Project Leader – Student will initiate and lead a service learning project with a group of their peers. Documentation of this project will be indicated with their teacher’s signature that the student has included this Leadership Documentation Letter in their student portfolio. Other Documented Leadership Experience – Student will obtain a signature on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet from their teacher verifying that the student has included this Leadership Documentation Letter in their student portfolio. Supplemental – Complete three of the following*: Career Pathway Completion – Students must complete all of the coursework in one of the CTE Pathways, submit a Pathway Completer Application (available Spring 2016), and be awarded a Pathway Completer Certificate. The student must include the Pathway Completer Certificate in their student portfolio (Pathway Completer Certificates will be issued in early May before portfolios are due). Students should check with their JATC instructor to learn which pathways are available in their program. Pathway Completer applications must be turned into a JATC instructor for processing by no later than (to be announced in Spring 2016). Senior Project Completion – Student will complete a senior project as defined and certified by their program instructor on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet. A copy of the senior project or a one-page description of the project must be included in the student portfolio. Presentation Skills Demonstration – Student will conduct a formal classroom presentation as defined and certified by their program instructor on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet. A copy of the presentation must be included in the student portfolio Writing Sample/Student Reflection – Student will complete a student reflection writing assignment and include it in the student portfolio as assigned and certified by their program instructor on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet…or, alternately, student may complete this Writing Reflection Activity for inclusion in the student portfolio. Clinical/Practicum Completion – Student will successfully complete a clinical or practicum experience as certified by their program instructor on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet. This Clinical-Practicum Reflection Document must also be included in the student portfolio. USOE Certification – Student will achieve a USOE certification. Student can achieve a USOE Certification by successfully completing an end of course skills test. The certificate issued will be included in the student portfolio. Students should check with their JATC instructor to learn which USOE certifications are available in their program. Industry Certification – Student will achieve an industry certification related to their program of study as certified by inclusion of the certificate and verified by a signature of their program instructor on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet. Students should check with their JATC instructor to learn which industry certifications are available in their program. Core – Complete all of the following: Cover Letter – Student will include a completed cover letter in their student portfolio. A cover letter tool is included in the Resume Builder component of UtahFutures. Students must log into their UtahFutures account to access the Resume builder and cover letter template. Once logged into UtahFutures, the Resume Builder is available under the “Careers” pull-down menu. A printed copy of the student’s completed cover letter must be included in the student portfolio. Resume – Student will include a completed resume in their student portfolio. A Resume Builder is available in UtahFutures. Students must log into their UtahFutures account to access the Resume builder. Once logged into UtahFutures, the Resume Builder is available under the “Careers” pull-down menu. A printed copy of the student’s completed resume must be included in the student portfolio. References – Student will include a personal reference list for use in employment pursuit in the student portfolio. For guidelines on creating a personal reference list, follow this hyperlink (link). Professional Dress – Student will participate in a minimum of two “Professional Dress” days as planned in their JATC program or at the school level. Certification of professional dress participation will be indicated by a JATC staff member on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet and inclusion of a JATC Professional Dress Certificate. For tips on professional dress see “How to dress for an Interview .” Supplemental – Complete three of the following*: Maintain Employment – minimum 3 months – Student will maintain employment for a minimum of three consecutive months as verified by employer on this Documentation of Work Experience form which will be included in the student portfolio. Job Shadow – Student will successfully complete a 4-hour job shadow experience as certified by their program instructor with signature on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet. Student must also include this Job Shadow Reflection Paper in their student portfolio. “Mock” Interview Completion – Student will complete a mock job interview with a JATC staff member. The JATC staff member conducting the interview will certify successful completion of the interview with a signature on the Student Portfolio Tracking Sheet and grading rubric to be included in the student portfolio. The JATC staff member conducting the mock interview should use this Mock Job Interview Document to complete the interview and the student will include the completed document in the student portfolio. Attendance at School – absent no more than 3 days in their JATC program (for any reason) – Student will include a verified attendance record in the student portfolio. Attendance verifications are available from JATC’s school registrar. Attendance is verified after the end of third quarter. If a student elects not to include this component in their portfolio because their absenteeism has exceeded 3 days, portfolio completers may not exceed 10 absences and still earn a medallion (this exclusion may be appealed to the school’s Principal if the absences are due to extenuating circumstances). Punctuality at School – tardy no more than 3 times in their JATC program (for any reason) – Student will include a verified punctuality record in the student portfolio. Punctuality verifications are available from JATC’s school registrar. Punctuality is verified after the end of third quarter. Employability Skills Documentation – Student must participate and be enrolled in a Work Experience class at their boundary school and have their performance evaluated for inclusion in the student portfolio on this Employability Skills Document. UtahFutures Activity – Student must complete the “Career Cluster Inventory” assessment in UtahFutures. In order to complete the assessment, the student must be logged into their UtahFutures account. The Career Cluster Inventory is located under the Assessments tab in the application. Once the student has completed the “Traditional” assessment (80 questions), they must complete the two response fields at the bottom of the page. The answers to these two response fields must be included in the portfolio along with a screen shot or a copy & paste of their assessment results. Student should use this Sample screen shot of a completed Career Clusters Inventory for guidance. UtahFutures Activity – Student must complete the “Interest Profiler” assessment in UtahFutures. In order to complete the assessment, the student must be logged into their UtahFutures account. The Interest Profiler is located under the Assessments tab in the application. Once the student has completed the Interest Profiler and obtain their results, the must use the UtahFutures application to complete this document and include the completed activity in the student portfolio.
